The Black Role in Literature (feat. Writer Camryn Garrett)

Welcome to the latest episode of the Royal State of Mind Podcast!

On today’s show, I speak with Camryn Garrett, a teenage writer, filmmaker, and creator. Given her expertise on the literature industry and first-hand experience with writing as a black woman in a system that suppresses those voices, I thought she’d be the perfect person to discuss the role of the black writer in modern creation, as well as discuss the industry and literature scene in general.

Camryn explains why writers of color are struggling to be heard in the industry and she lays out her solutions for that quandary. She discusses her approach and motives when writing, as well as how her audience impacts her work. Then, is the writing world improving for scribes of color? Camryn gives her perspective, and more.
